Fisheries Development Oman (FDO) has completed the first commercial harvest from a 20 million riyal ($52 million) shrimp farm.

Fisheries Development Oman (FDO) has completed the first commercial harvest from a shrimp farm. FDO has invested 20 million riyals ($52 million) in the farm.

Natural Shrimp Aquaculture Company aims to break the record of 4,600 tonnes of production by 2023. Natural Shrimp Aquaculture Company plans to reach 2,100 tonnes by the end of 2022.

The farm will breed Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) using special pathogen-free broodstock imported from the US.

This is FDO’s first investment in shrimp farming projects. FDO is a subsidiary of the Oman Investment Authority, the sovereign wealth fund.
